These wonderful items were used on back-bars and in shop
front displays the world over. In fact they still are but unlike their
predecessors, the modern showcards are 100% cardboard.
The original early showcards were also manufactured using cardboard, but only for the main structure (the cardboard would have some type of fold out stand and a cut out for hanging purposes). The front of the showcard was then covered with tin, folding over the four edges and overlapping the back by approximately one quarter of an inch (6mm). The tin face showed off the painted advertisement which in turn was covered in a plastic film. It is this plastic, when punctured, which leads to the rusting of the showcards. A small amount of rusting does not detract from these much sought after items, a large selection of which are available for your perusal..... Do you know of a showcard that should be in the Gallery? Full members are very welcome to submit showcards for inclusion to the Galleries. The GCC has provided the facility for you to send us your picture(s). |
