Step 2 - The Whirligig
The next part of the routine is the segmented roof of the clock that
opens out like the petals of a flower. Hanging from each petal unfold the characters from
the Guinness adverts.
The whole assembly rotates on its axis. |

Technical Data
The petals are operated by a linkage similar to that of an umbrella
by a motor-driven leadscrew. Cords and pulleys attached to the sliding hub of the linkage
then lower into position the folded pendant figures.
The whole assembly is rotated on its axis by a worm-geared motor through a chain and sprocket. |
